Helping the Remote Villagers of Laos
Adopt A Village in Laos (AAVIL) is a Canadian registered non-profit organization, incorporated in 2010 and dedicated to improving the lives of people in remote rural villages in northern Laos. The organization focuses on creating sustainable, long-term solutions to combat poverty by providing basic needs including, but not limited to clean water, sanitary toilets, and education infrastructure.
In 2025 we helped more than 5,000 villagers with filtered water. We also constructed 2 permanent water supplies, 2 banks of toilets for secondary schools and a major structural support upgrade to a school.
We are indeed humbled by the generosity of so many donors and sponsors, allowing us to make a real difference in helping these rural villagers to lead longer, healthier, happier lives.
Water
Projects
To date, we have provided more than 100 villages with water filter systems and completed more than 30 permanent water supply projects (dams, pipes and reservoirs).
Water Filters
The team distributes gravity-fed, WHO-approved water filters that are assembled in Laos. These remove 99.9% of bacteria, dramatically reducing illnesses. Over 11,000 family-sized water filters have been distributed.
If you would like to donate/sponsor a water filter to a Lao family, a photo will be taken of the recipient family standing with your water filter and that photo will be sent to you via email along with your tax receipt.
Toilets With Running Water
Due to a severe lack of proper toilets throughout the country, each school building, community centre and large construction project (i.e. health centre) is fitted with working toilets.
Schools
We have constructed many schools and classroom buildings in areas where they did not previously exist, or where existing structures were inadequate. We’ve also supplied water filters, desks, and school supplies for many schools.
Special Projects
We offer hygiene training and provide reusable menstrual hygiene kits to secondary school students. The foundation also supports student scholarships for post secondary school education. Each year AAVIL will review additional requests and provide funds for special needs, i.e. wheelchairs, medicine, mosquito nets and dental support for those who are less fortunate.
